Description
This piece honors The Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) story of the dream catcher involves the Grandmother Spider (Asibikaashi), who protected the Ojibwe people, especially children. As the Ojibwe people spread out, it became difficult for her to reach everyone, so she shared in a dream the gift of the dream catcher from the Creator, so grandmothers began weaving “webs of life” from willow and sinew, with a central hole. Good dreams pass through the hole and slide down to the sleeper, while bad dreams are caught in the web and disappear by dawn, acting as a proxy for the protective presence of Grandmother Spider.
